Night fell upon the woods. Small streams of sunlight broke through the opening branches surrounding our home. I
thought of the creature that night and wondered if he’d be nearby, howling within the night for its prey. Even more,
I couldn’t stop thinking about Edward Oldsmen. I wondered about the feel of his soft lips covering my body. The
strength of his firm, muscled body covering my own.

But I wasn’t supposed to think these thoughts.

 I was married.

I had a husband that I promised to give my life.

But my body ached for Edward Oldsmen like no other man before.

Just as I thought this, a familiar tune spread throughout the house from our piano downstairs like a soft wind that
calmed the tamest animal. Samuel was still gone and I knew he didn’t know how to play. I slowly descended the
stairs and stepped into our living room.

There was Edward Oldsmen sitting in front of the piano moving from side to side with the melody. His eyes were
closed, but his expression was that of a calm transporting him from this world and into the next. I stood by and
watched as he played. His body was in motion and his curly brown hair was slightly damp with sweat. His hands
danced across the piano as if possessed by the music itself. And then I started moving as the music reached out and
took hold of my body, moving it through the air. I bent down and kissed him gently on his soft lips. He reacted,
pressing his lips against my own. A soft, deep male moan escaped him before he shot out of his chair in a flash of a
minute. His pale face grew red as he tried to make sense of his actions. "I am terribly sorry," he said quickly. “I
just…I saw the piano and it always relaxes me. I just…”

“No, it's fine.” I smiled and held my hand up assuredly. “You play well.”

 "Thank you."

"This composition is not as difficult as other works, I suppose,” he rambled on. “Besides I didn’t think anyone
was home other than the maids.”

Realizing my smile, he returned the gesture while running his finger along his lips. “Why did you do that?”
“Because I wanted to. I just…had a feeling. It was improper of me. I apologize.”

“No, I, uh…I rather liked it.” He looked around the room. “But you are a married woman and therefore not mine
to touch.”

I nodded, partly thankful for the reminder of a situation I long wanted to forget. “Correct and I do apologize for
my actions,” I said softly. “Do you know where my husband is?”

“He was called to the hotel to mind some repairs. He told me to let you know if I needed anything.”

 “And do you?”

Edward shook his head. A spark of confusion painted his face. “I’m sorry, what?”

I giggled. “Do you need anything?”

His eyes remained on me as he shook his head again. “No, I uh. I’m sorry for staring but…” He took a breath. “I’
ve never seen a more beautiful woman before. I’ve lived in these woods most of my life—”

“And you’ve never seen the creature?” I blurted. The words left me before I could stop them and I couldn’t help
covering my mouth. “I’m sorry.”

“No, no. It’s refreshing to hear you speak from your mind. Yesterday, you seemed so…demure. Closed.”

I nodded. “It’s the way I was brought up.”

“But not the way you are.”

I shifted in my steps, trying to keep the fire inside of me from spewing out. I already said and done too much. I
looked around the room and reminded myself where I was and whom I belonged to.

“Please tell me, what do you know of this animal?”

“I don’t know what it is exactly. I heard it last night howling. I’ve never seen it, though. I mean, there have been
descriptions. Folks say it has the head of a wolf and the body of both wolf and man. It’s rather hard to explain.”

 “I can imagine.”

Edward nodded. “People out here don’t usually survive too long. Many men have hunted it, but none have found
it.”

My nerves were on end. I can tell he sensed it as he closed the distance between us and took my hands in his.
“Don’t worry,” he said softly. “I won’t let anyone or anything hurt you.”
